The Queen Elizabeth 2
The Queen Elizabeth 2, known as QE2, is a former British ocean liner that was converted into a floating hotel. Originally built for the Cunard Line, the Queen Elizabeth 2 also operated as a cruise ship from 1969 to 2008. She was laid up until her conversion and, since April 2018, has been operating as a floating hotel in Dubai. She was the company’s flagship from 1969 to 2004, when she was succeeded by the Queen Mary 2. The Queen Elizabeth 2 was designed at Cunard’s offices in Liverpool, Southampton and Scotland. She was considered the last of the transatlantic liners until the Queen Mary 2 entered service.
The Queen Mary 2 model
The Queen Elizabeth model was built with a remarkable level of craftsmanship, using the traditional technique of plank and frame construction. To ensure a high level of quality and detail, every step of the construction process is controlled. Hulls and decks are built exclusively from hardwoods. The model of the Queen Mary 2 was sanded and varnished in several layers to create a smooth finish. The details are reproduced using leather upholstery. The team of master craftsmen use the skills and expertise developed over many years to ensure that this model is identical to the original. The model is mounted on a solid wooden base and includes a brass plate.
